Boxing: Sergey Kovalev vs Anthony Yarde

Tomorrow evening, the local hero and reigning WBO champion Sergey Kovalev and the British challenger Anthony Yarde will face Russia's Chelyabinsk in the fight for the World Heavyweight Championship. Before their duel, both protagonists met for the last time at the official Weigh-In.

After Sergey Kovalev was able to regain his world title in a rematch against Eleider Alvarez in February this year with a convincing points victory, now waiting for the next big hurdle to the now 36-year-old defending champion.  "The Kruscher", as Kovalev is called by his fans, meets home-defender Anthony Yarde on Saturday night.

While Sergey Kovalev can look back on a long and successful amateur career, Anthony Yarde played only twelve fights, of which he won eleven by Ko and only once lost out.  As a professional boxer, the 28-year-old Briton has so far been without blemish and sent 17 of his 18 "victims" prematurely into the ring dust.

Even internationally known light heavyweights such as Tony Averlant or Dariusz Sek saw against the powerful Anthony Yarde, who reminiscent of his explosive fighting style to the young Mike Tyson, no trick and also did not manage the full distance.  Still, Yarde is considered an outsider by some experts.

For the challenger, this is the first big chance for a major world title.  Sergey Kovalev, who has more experience on his side, has (perhaps) better boxing skills than his challenger.  However, Anthony Yarde is always dangerous.  For the sake of recklessness Kovalev is therefore completely discouraged!

In yesterday's weighing, both boxers showed in a visually excellent form.  Sergey Kovalev weighed 79.20 kilos while Yarde 78.88 kilograms.
