Preview Boxing: Canelo vs Kovalev

Fighting fans will have nothing to complain about next Saturday.  In addition to UFC 244's strong card, which takes place in New York, boxing will experience an unexpected and spectacular confrontation.  It's Cinnamon Day vs.  Kovalev.  The biggest star today, Canelo Álvarez faces the biggest challenge of his career, Sergey Kovalev.  The fight is worth the Russian WBO World Heavyweight Belt.

The match will be the third of the broadcast agreement between Canelo (52-1-2, 35 KO) and the DAZN streaming service.  Brazilian fans will be able to watch it live by subscribing to DAZN Brasil - even during the 30 day tasting service, which is not charged.  In partnership with MMA Brazil, DAZN Brazil has provided a link for our readers to subscribe to the service, which includes the broadcast of various other sports and championships around the world.

For some years, noble art had in Kovalev (34-3-1, 29 KO), Gennady Golovkin and Deontay Wilder a trinity of knockout artists in the modality.  Golovkin, after sweeping the average weight, was expected to meet Kovalev.  However, much has happened to make this fight lose its meaning.  In return, new developments have recovered the excitement of the fans.

First, Andre Ward showed that Kovalev was a normal human being when he beat him twice consecutively.  This paved the way for a surprising Russian knockout loss to Colombian Eleider Álvarez.  Kovalev won the rematch against the Colombian, recovered at least the current WBO belt, but saw his invincible aura crumble for good.

Then Cinnamon did the same with Golovkin.  The tie of the first confrontation was controversial, but the Mexican came back better, more aggressive, and triumphed in the rematch.  Although this is Golovkin's only defeat, the recent positive result against Sergiy Derevyanchenko has left more doubts about Kazakh's future.
