Boxing: Mikey Garcia vs Jessie Vargas

Ex-world champion Mikey Garcia will let his fists fly again on Saturday night. Almost a year after his only loss to Errol Spence Jr. The 32-year-old is back in the ring for the first time.  The former double champion Jessie Vargas is in Frisco (Texas, USA) for the vacant WBC Diamond welterweight title.

Garcia vs.  Vargas - The fight for the future!

Mikey Garcia (39-1-0, 30 Ko’s) was already world champion in four different weight classes!  The 32-year-old standard boom has been active as a professional boxer since 2006 and was unbeaten until March 16, 2019.  On that March day last year, Garcia welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. faced up to whom he had to give up clearly on points.

Eleven months after his very first professional loss, Mikey Garcia is back on the upcoming weekend.  Under the leadership of Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn, Garcia hopes for one or the other 'Payday' in the near future.  The ex-champion wants to take the first step towards the title fight on Saturday night!

With 30-year-old Jessie Vargas (29-2-2, 11 Ko’s), however, a very difficult task awaits Garcia.  Vargas also sat on the World Cup throne and was a super light and welterweight champion.  Jesse Vargas, who has already boxed against greats like Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley, has had a longer break from competition - was last in the ring in April 2019 (knockout win over Humberto Soto).

If Mikey Garcia and Jesse Vargas will meet in the rope area in two days, the vacant WBC Diamond Belt is at stake.  But for both boxers it is much more about the future - because only the winner can hope for a big payday soon!
