Official: Premier League also suspended

The Premier League season has been suspended until April 3 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Premier League called an emergency meeting with its clubs this morning (Friday) in relation to the remaining matches of this season, before an official announcement was made at 11am.

They decided to suspend the championship, becoming the last major league to temporarily suspend the season.

It is the Premier League's own websites that have announced the temporary suspension of football in England.

"Following a shareholder meeting today, it was unanimously decided to suspend the Premier League for the purpose of returning on April 4, subject to medical advice and conditions at the time," it said.

Major leagues in Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, the Netherlands and Ireland have all been suspended, while the German Bundesliga and France's Ligue 1 are being played behind closed doors.

Otherwise, numerous Premier League teams have been influenced by the global spread of Covid-19.

Arsenal on Thursday confirmed that their first team squad and coaches would be isolated after their manager Mikel Arteta tested positive for the coronavirus test.

Chelsea also announced that their players were being isolated after English representative Callum Hudson-Odoi also proved positive.

Other teams have decided to isolate themselves, while other positive cases of coronavirus in the Premier League are also suspected.
