Emanuel Navarrete vs. Uriel Lopez

At Gimnasio TV Azteca in Mexico City, WBO world champion Emanuel Navarrete will face his Mexican compatriot Uriel Lopez at night on Sunday.

Title is not at stake

Emanuel Navarrete (31-1-0, 27 KOs) is currently the most active world champion in boxing.  Since winning the WBO Super Bantamweight title in December 2018, he has defended it five times.  His duel with Ariel Lopez (13-13-1, 6 KOs) on Saturday evening will not be a stage for another World Cup fight.  In this case, the boxers meet one division higher - in featherweight.  As with other champions, title fights are currently difficult to set up because the risk of a short-term loss is greater than usual.

For Navarrete, this is at least a good opportunity to test how he can handle higher weight.  With a height of 1.70 m and a range of 1.83 m, it is already extremely strong for the weight limit of 53.525 kg, which is why several class advancements are conceivable in the near future.  His opponent, who can be described as a strong journalist, shouldn't be too much of a hurdle for the world champion, regardless of such discussions.  For him it would be a success if he could get through the ten scheduled rounds.

On the scales, the boxers were both 57.6 kg, slightly above the feather weight limit (57.153 kg).
