Boxing: Felix Cash vs. Jason Welborn

The third edition of the Matchroom Fight Camp reads on Friday evening the Commonwealth Middleweight Title at stake.

Felix Cash about to jump to the European level?

The line-up of top talent at Matchroom Boxing is immense.  Somewhat overshadowed by a few well-known faces, middleweight Felix Cash (12-0-0, 8 KOs) has worked his way up in recent years.  Only last year was the 27-year-old Brit noticed more clearly when he secured the vacant Commonwealth title and successfully defended it in November 2019.  However, all those who jumped on the cash train at the time could not foresee that the Corona break would bring it to an abrupt standstill.

Now the bearer of hope is back and has to compete with a well-known name.  On Friday evening he was facing none other than Jason Welborn (24-8-0, 7 KOs).  This is known for the fact that he has already pushed one or the other ambitious compatriot down to earth.  So Welborn was able to win victories over Tommy Langford and Marcus Morrison and even developed a world championship opportunity.  At the level, however, the 34-year-old was found to be too easy (the then world champion Jarrett Hurd stopped Welborn in the fourth round).

This afternoon the boxers had to go to the scales.  The weight limit of 72.574 kg was no problem for the protagonists of tomorrow evening - both Cash and Welborn were below the target.

 "Brown Flash" or "Lilywhite Lightning"?

No, not two masked superheroes meet here, it's just the nicknames of super featherweights Zelfa Barrett (23-1-0, 14 KOs) and Eric Donovan (12-0-0, 7 KOs).  They will duel for the IBF Inter-Continental title as part of the event's supporting program and find out who may soon be able to make a name for themselves internationally.  In this case, too, there were no problems with the weight - the limit (58.967 kg) was undercut.

The remaining results of the weighing:

Super welterweight: Kieron Conway 69.7 kg vs.  Navid Mansouri 69.5 kg

Super middleweight: John Docherty 75.6 kg vs.  Anthony Fox 75.4 kg

Featherweight: Shannon Courtenay 57.5 kg vs.  Rachel Ball 56.0 kg
