UCL: Bayern vs Chelsea

Chelsea will meet Bayern Munich in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Saturday night after falling 3-0 in the first leg in February. A lot has happened in the six months since the two teams last met, but Bayern are still the championship candidate to advance to the quarterfinals, where either Napoli or Barcelona are waiting.

Gnabry scored twice in the first leg and was the deciding scorer for Bayern in a friendly win over Marseille on Friday. Flick has shown that he will launch a strong squad later this week, so Gnabry and prolific striker Lewandowski look sure to start, along with tectonic king Thomas Muller. However, Kingsley Coman is having muscle problems, freeing space for Ivan Perisic to return to the side of the three above. Elsewhere, Benjamin Pavard has been disqualified due to suspension so Joshua Kimmich - now more accustomed to playing in midfield - is more likely to switch to right-back kicking. Bayern produced an extremely impressive performance at Stamford Bridge thanks to a double from Serge Gnabry and 1 from Robert Lewandowski. In the entire history of the European Cup and Champions League, No team has won by 3 or more goals in a knockout match on away field and cannot go through the previous 92 times. Bayern will certainly keep an eye on next week's quarter-finals against Barcelona or Napoli although Hansi Flick is expected to still launch the strongest squad on Saturday. The Bavarian club need to build strength, have not played for more than a month, Bayern's most recent match was the DFB-Pokal final against Bayer Leverkusen on July 4 - Lewandowski scored 52 goals in the season with Another brace in Berlin as Bayern won 4-2, ending their domestic campaign with 16 consecutive wins. For Chelsea, Lampard's FA Cup final defeat was also compounded by the loss of three players - Pulisic, Cesar Azpilicueta and Pedro - because injuries would have forced them to leave this game. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Billy Gilmour are also excluded, while Marcos Alonso and Jorginho are suspended. Willian and N'Golo Kante are physical doubts, Coach Lampard must decide who holds the goal with Kepa Arrizabalaga eliminated in the last two matches. The Blues took the lead thanks to a Christian Pulisic strike at Wembley, but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted twice to win the FA Cup worthy of the Gunners. This season will still be seen as a positive one for Frank Lampard in his first campaign in charge of the club entering the top four of the Premier League despite the transfer ban. In the Champions League, the West London team has just overcome a difficult group of Valencia, Lille and Ajax.
