EFL Cup: Chelsea vs Tykes

Last weekend, Chelsea had to receive its first defeat in the new season. In fact, a defeat to the defending Premier League champion is not something too surprising. But the way that the blues is empty-handed is what makes their fans angry when many people have the same inhibitory thoughts and are "not committed".

The main reason is by one more time, the Chelsea defensive players "offer" victory for the opponent. Andreas Christensen makes the home team only play with 10 people because the situation is no different in the subject ... wrestling and Kepa Arrizabalaga "squeezes" his teammates with a straight pass to the opponent's striker leg.

What Chelsea fans are waiting for is therefore the appearance of new signings in defense. Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is completing the final mandatory procedures while Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell are ready for tonight's match against Barnsley.

Most likely, only Thiago Silva will be present in the starting line-up because Chilwell is still not fit. However, the presence of the Brazilian midfielder is something to look forward to for Chelsea as he will add experience and certainty to the defense.

Despite having just celebrated his 36th birthday yesterday (September 22), Thiago Silva has actually proven many times that his age is just a number. The veteran midfielder still led PSG to the Champions League final last season and is always the most reliable name in the French team's defense, more than much younger boys like Presnel Kimpembe or Marquinhos.

Coach Frank Lampard also highly appreciated the role of "leader" of Thiago Silva. Over the years wearing the captain's armband at the world's biggest clubs such as AC Milan, PSG as well as the Brazilian national team and rich playing experience, he promises to be a mentor and instructor for juniors like Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudiger or even Christensen.

Of course, a weak opponent like Barnsley is not enough to make a "reagent" worthy of whether Thiago Silva can withstand the "heat" when playing football in England at the age of 36 or not. But tonight, all attention will still be focused on the new "leader" in the defense of the Blues.
