Lazio and Atalanta BC face off in Serie A on Wednesday night with both clubs looking to build up a season-kicking victory. While Lazio had a 2-0 away win at Cagliari, Atalanta had a thrilling 4-2 victory over Torino. Both challenged the Serie A title in the 2019-20 period, Lazio and Atalanta were both aware that a quick start to this campaign would put pressure on Juventus and Inter Milan.

Without any late fitness issues, Inzaghi could choose to name the same team that started Lazio's match against Cagliari. That would leave Felipe Caicedo patiently looking for opportunities in the final third, while Muriqi is currently sidelined with an injury. In the hours after the competition at Stadio Olimpico Grande, Lazio was more convincing to see off Cagliari thanks to goals from Manuel Lazzari and Ciro Immobile. While Simone Inzaghi has kept the record to a minimum, the club's best deal is a contract extension with the free-scoring Immobile, who is currently facing competition from Vedat Muriqi.

Jose Luis Palomino is fit to replace Mattia Caldara after being included in the first half at the weekend. Mario Pasalic and Ruslan Malinovskiy are also trying to find an opportunity in the Atalanta starting line-up, potentially paying the price with Luis Muriel. Goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini and rookie Aleksei Miranchuk will be absent due to injury. Neither of the top two teams of last season looked particularly convincing in their opening matches, giving opportunities for teams to sit just below them on the standings. Starting their campaign later than some of their rivals, Atalanta has their schedule with Saturday wins. They then took part in a chaotic encounter at Turin, but returned to a 3-2 lead in the first half. An early goal after Marten de Roon's break finally posed a challenge for the host.
