Boxing: Benn vs Formella

Benn vs Formella

On Saturday, November 21, Germany's top welterweight Sebastian Formella will meet British young star Conor Benn in London.  Before that, the final PK was on the agenda.

It's getting serious!  In two days there will be a real boxing cracker at the SSE Arena in Wembley, London, when EC Boxings Sebastian Formella and Conor Benn face each other in the main fight.  Benn's WBA Continental title is at stake in their twelve-round duel, but the main thing is to work your way up through a welterweight win.  Today was the final press conference at which promoter Eddie Hearn from Matchroom Boxing coaxed a few words out of the boxers.

Sebastian Formella

“A lot of people say that I'm the favorite because I've fought more fights and boxed stronger opponents, but Conor Benn is also a tough opponent with good skills, so it will be a tough fight.  I trained just as hard as he did and will therefore make it very difficult for him on Saturday. "

“I was able to take away a lot from my training in the US that I did before the fight against Shawn Porter.  I've learned that I have to work more on my physique.  I haven't had that much time since then, but I've been able to change my training a bit. "

Conor Benn

“He's a very tough opponent, but I don't mind.  I am always ready for challenges and struggles, as I have proven several times.  In the fight against Jussi Koivula, people also thought I was going to lose, but then I knocked him out in two rounds.  They said it was too experienced, but if you get caught with a right and a left hook, it doesn't matter who you are. "

“I am happy that the UK public can join me in my career.  From my beginnings as an amateur to my early days as a professional to the present, where I am fighting my second main fight.  And that against a man from the top of the world who has a good reputation.  Those are the fights I want: against a Vargas, Granados or now, against Formella.  I want to push myself and face the challenges. "

Eddie Hearn (Matchroom Boxing)

“I'm very nervous and worry about Conor.  Formella not only fights well, he can also articulate himself.  He is intelligent and knows exactly what to do.  This is a big hurdle for Conor Benn and we don't know whether he is good enough to overcome it. "

Promoter Erol Ceylan from EC Boxing, who cannot make it live at the ring due to the strict quarantine regulations, keeps his fingers crossed for Formella from Germany: “We all believe in Basti and are convinced that he will return with a victory  Hamburg will come.  German boxing fans can look forward to a top-class boxing match.
