Boxing: Haney vs Gamboa

On Saturday night the fists fly in Hollywood (USA): WBC lightweight world champion Devin Haney and ex-champion Yuriorkis Gamboa will face each other at the “Seminole-Hard Rock Hotel” on the weekend.

Devin Haney: "First Gamboa, then against Teofimo Lopez and Gervonta Davis!"

At least since Teofimo Lopez's World Cup triumph over Vasyl Lomachenko, a new era in international boxing seems to have dawned.  After Gervonta "Tank" Davis was able to convince with a spectacular knockout victory over Leo Santa Cruz last weekend, the 21-year-old Devin Haney (24-0-0, 15 Ko’s) wants to make an equally impressive statement on Saturday night.

Haney, who is going to risk his lightweight WBC World Championship belt, wants to get the big paydays next year.  On the way there, the reigning WBC world champion has to deliver a glamorous performance at the weekend!  Against ex-world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-3-0, 18 Ko’s), the US hopefuls may have their first big test.

Devin Haney last stood in the ring almost exactly a year ago.  In November 2019, he unanimously scored the previously undefeated Alfredo Santiago (Dominican Republic) over twelve rounds.  Against the 16 years older Yuriorkis Gambao, however, a knockout victory is now expected.  In comparison to Gervonta Davis, who once stopped Gamboa in the twelfth round, Haney wants to ensure a much earlier success.

“I will defeat Gamboa more clearly than any other boxer has before.  After I knocked out Gamboa, I want to box against Teofimo Lopez and Gervonta Davis! ”, Devin Haney said at the last press conference.  Ex-Olympic champion Gamboa should not be underestimated!  However, among the experts, Haney is a clear favorite.
