Boxing: Taylor vs Gutierrez

Boxing: Katie Taylor vs Miriam Gutierrez

Tonight  evening three World Cup matches with women will take place in the SSE Arena in Wembley, London.  DAZN will broadcast live from 2 p.m ET.

If the current situation has one good quality, it is that even prominent names in the world of boxing are getting into the ring more often than in previous years.  Katie Taylor (16-0-0, 6 KOs) is one of those people.  The Irish only stood in the ring for the last time on August 22nd, when she successfully played the rematch against Delfine Persoon.  Now the undisputed lightweight world champion will meet the so far unbeaten Spaniard Miriam Gutierrez (13-0-0, 5 KOs) at Wembley.

In today's weighing, the protagonists of tomorrow's fight evening had to undercut the scales and the specified limit of 61.235 kg.  Ultimately, the two athletes succeeded in this, so that the main fight is empty.  Now the only question left is whether Gutierrez owns the class to put superstar Taylor in danger.

Perhaps the most interesting skirmish in England's capital takes place on Saturday in the super featherweight division.  There Terri Harper (10-0-1, 5 KOs) defends her title according to the version of the WBC and the IBO.  The British woman last fought her last fight just three months ago.  The defending champion had to take a lot in the draw against Natasha Jonas, which was flattering for Harper.  Your next task will be all the more difficult.  She is up against the Norwegian Katharina Thanderz (13-0-0, 2 KOs), who is being promoted by Sauerland Events and who was able to qualify for the fight against Harper by winning the WBC interim world championships.  Here, too, both parties fell below the weight limit (58.967 kg).

Brit Rachel Ball (6-1-0) and Jorgelina Guanini (9-1-2, one knockout) from Argentina are still without World Cup gold in their luggage.  This will change (more or less) tomorrow evening, because the vacant WBC interim world championship in super bantamweight is at stake in their fight.  The winner could then probably challenge the association's full world champion, Yamileth Mercado.  Ball should be the favorite in the race after her convincing win over Shannon Courtenay.  Both she and Guanini adhered to the weight specification (55.225 kg).
