Boxing: Joshua vs Pulev

Joshua vs Pulev 🥊

In the heavyweight division there are now two compulsory defenses, for the IBF and the WBO title.

After Anthony Joshua got his four world championship belts (IBF, WBO, IBO and WBA super champion) back in Diriyah, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia last Saturday, the question now arises: who is next?

Even before the rematch between Andy Ruiz and Anthony Joshua, it was clear that the winner of the fight in Saudi Arabia would have to defend two titles.  Once the Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev, who is the official challenger for the IBF title, is waiting and the WBO has also nominated an official challenger in Oleksandr Usyk and insists that the winner from Diriyah has his IBF within 180 days against the undefeated Oleksnadr Usy.  Belt must defend duty.

Eddie Hearn, the promoter of IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, has since hinted that Kubrat Pulev is likely to be Joshua's next opponent.

Eddie Hearn will speak to both world federations (IBF and WBO) this Monday.  He thinks he can get Joshua to play Kubrat Pulev first and then Oleksandr Usyk as the next opponent.

He's likely Anthony Joshua's closest opponent: Kubrat Pulev

“It will all have to happen very quickly because now the vultures will be circling out there.  But that's exactly how I would do it if I were in their situation.  I don't blame them, that's business, ”Hearn told Sky Sports.

“I need to speak to the IBF and the WBO and we'll see who goes first.  I think at the moment it looks like it is the IBF but we still have to wait for confirmation.  AJ will want to keep all the belts and is not ready to give up any of the titles voluntarily and if that is the case then I think it will be Pulev first and then Usyk. "

"I think April or May is a realistic date for Joshua's next fight."
