FA Cup: Man United vs Watford

Man United vs Watford

In the middle of the week, MU received a 0-2 defeat against Man City at home. However, it was a match that the Red Devils did not play badly. They only lost by 2 fixed situations and lost to a Green Man at a time when this team was playing very hard. Remember that at the end of last week, teachers and Pep Guardiola also beat Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge. In short, it was a loss that was not too blameful for Ole Solskjaer, even though he had to stop in the semifinals again (lost all 4 last semi-finals). Because it is undeniable that even though MU has progressed, they are still below Man City level.

In a broader view, the Red Devils have been playing steadily for more than a month. They are unbeaten in the last 10 rounds in the Premier League, winning 8 wins. During this time, MU won 26/30 absolute points, was the team that earned the most points, and also the team that scored the most in the Premier League. It is this great performance that helps the Red Devils climb up to catch up with Liverpool while still kicking a match. MU will even surpass The Kop to take the top spot if they win Burnley in a match in the middle of next week. The next two rounds will be very important matches with the Reds, after Burnley will be the "final" match with Liverpool in round 19. Therefore, MU needs the best physical preparation when The Premier League returns next week.

In such circumstances, Solsa will most likely only use the B team tonight to keep the pillars strong. However, it is important to know that MU's squad depth this season is quite good and their reserve team also has many quality names. In defense, the two-border corridor will be the appearance of Brandon Williams and Alex Telles. In particular, Eric Bailly will return to midfielder. Bailly is playing very well every time it is used lately. The midfielder is on his way to regain his peak form and his appearance will help Solskjaer feel secure in the match where Harry Maguire was rested.

At the top, this will be an opportunity for Van de Beek to come out and impress. The Dutch midfielder spent most of his time on the bench since arriving at Old Trafford. This will be a valuable opportunity for Van de Beek to come in from the beginning and make a mark. Mason Greenwood is another notable name. The young England striker played wonderfully in the second half of last season, but has failed to maintain progress since the start of the 2020/21 season. Greenwood has only 1 goal in the Premier League this season and needs games like Watford to regain confidence.

On Watford's side, this team once brought sad memories to Solskjaer teachers and students. On December 22, 2019, at home, Watford defeated MU with a score of 2-0. It was a match where goalkeeper De Gea made the mistake of catching the ball, leading to a goal, and Wan-Bissaka made a foul leading to a penalty. After that defeat, Solskjaer's coach seat shook violently.

More than a year after the shock defeat at Vicarage Road, Solskjaer is still standing and Watford is no longer an uncomfortable opponent as before. This team even has to play in the First Division this season. As a result, a series of quality players fled Watford, most notably in the case of defensive midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure (to Everton). And yet, in the First Division, Watford is also not playing well when ranked 6th, 10 points behind the top team Norwich. Watford also just scored 25 goals after 22 rounds and is the team to score the least in the Top 9 in the First Division.

An opponent like Watford would be suitable for MU to complete dual goals, win and keep strength for the next important week in the Premier League.
