Herring vs Frampton

At Caesars Palace Hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, will host the WBO Super Light / Junior Welterweight World Championship, which has been postponed several times, between the 35-year-old defending champion Jamel Herring (22-2-0, 2 knockout wins) from Cincinnati, Ohio  , USA and the 34-year-old challenger and ex-champion Carl Frampton (28-2-0, 16 KO victories) from Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The event will be promoted by Jose Mohan (Round 10 Promotions), Bob Arum (Top Rank), Frank Warren (Queensberry Promotions) and will be broadcast live on ESPN + from 4:00 p.m. ET on Channel 5 in the US and UK.

Jamel Herring weighed in today's official weigh-in, before his third title defense, while Carl Frampton also weighed 158.7 kg.  Carl Framton wants to win tomorrow evening against Jamel Henning, Ireland's first world champion in three different weight classes.

The fight was originally supposed to take place last June in Frampton's hometown of Belfast, Northern Ireland, but then this date had to be canceled due to the pandemic.  After this cancellation, there was an appointment for December last year in Las Vegas, which was canceled for the same reason.  Then there were two more dates this year, for January and then also for February 27 in London.  Carona also fell victim to these dates.  After four unsuccessful attempts, a current venue has now been found for tomorrow, Saturday, with the Caesars Palace Hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Herring last defended his world title last September in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, by beating Jonathan Oquendo in disqualification.  The 35-year-old from the Coram section of Long Island, New York, who now lives in Cincinnati and divides training between Omaha, Nebraska and Colorado City, won the championship belt on May 12th last year, at Osceola Heritage Park,  Kissimmee, USA, by a unanimous 12-round point decision against the Japanese Masayuki Ito.

Carl Frampton's featherweight tenure began with a win over the then undefeated Leo Santa Cruz in July 2016, five months after beating bitter rival Scott Quigg in his unification battle between two undefeated playlists in February 2016.

A January 2017 rematch loss to Santa Cruz marked Frampton's final day with a belt around his waist.  This was followed by three wins in a row against Horacio Garcia and Nonito Donaire and a knockout win in the 7th round against Darren Traynor in August last year at York Hall in Bethnal Green, England.
