Boxing: Smith Jr. vs Vlasov

A new WBO champion is to be determined next night - finally!  When the appointment starts again, Joe Smith Jr. and Maxim Vlasov will box for the vacant WBO World Cup at the Osage Casino in Tulsa (Oklahoma, USA).  Bookmakers and experts already seem to agree on the role of favorites.

The 31-year-old Joe Smith Jr. (26-3-0, 21 Ko's), who inflicted a bitter knockout defeat in the last professional fight to boxing legend Bernard Hopkins in December 2016, now wants to use his second World Cup chance after he  2019 against WBA world champion Dmitry Bivol (on points) failed.

Joe Smith Jr. weighed in at 79.29 kilograms.  With Maxim Vlasov it was 79.38 kg.

With a convincing TKO victory over Kovalev conqueror Eleider Alvarez, he won the position of mandatory challenger at the WBO in August last year.  Joe Smith Jr., who lives in Long Island, New York, is therefore considered the future winner by boxing fans and professionals.  His upcoming opponent, Maxim Vlasov (45-3-0, 26 Ko’s), of course, wants to thwart those predictions!

The 34-year-old Russian lost only three times - and each against top boxers: Isaac Chilemba, Gilberto Ramirez and Krzysztof Glowacki had to go the full distance against Vlasov before they could be declared the winner.  Even if Joe Smith Jr. is the 3-1 favorite in the betting odds, Maxim Vlasov, who is always strong, should not be underestimated.  The German boxing fans can follow the event live at Fight24 and fighting.de!
