UFC Vegas 25: Reyes vs. Prochazka

Reyes vs. Prochazka

It was not so long ago that Dominick Reyes (12-2 in MMA, 6-2 in the UFC) was considered an inevitable reality in the light heavyweight division. The “Devastator” was the fighter who came closest to dethroning Jon Jones in February 2020. Since the then champion decided to leave the belt in August of the same year, many have placed Reyes as a future and long-time champion. Many, in fact, saw Reyes' victory over Jones in a fight that the southpaw hit "Bones" with everything he had for three rounds , but eventually ended up getting tired and being defeated by a minimal margin in a decision. However, many forgot to combine this prediction with Jan Blachowicz, who had the best performance of his career and took the American for nothing, knocking him out in two roundsand winning the vacant belt in the category.

Reyes vs. Prochazka

Reyes is an excellent left-handed kickboxer who knows how to use his 1.95m wingspan well. The American has good combinations in his arsenal, as well as good shots from the left, which are particularly devastating against right-handed opponents. Domicick also uses the feints very well, which were especially effective against Jon Jones, who sometimes did not interpret where the challenger would attack him. Against Blachowicz, however, he was the victim of a very powerful opponent who made a point of falling in close range, but his victories against Joachim Christensen, Jared Cannonier, Chris Weidman and Ovince Saint-Preux prove that it is not just anyone who manages to decipher the American's game.

Jiri “Denisa” Prochazka (27-3-1 in MMA, 1-0 in the UFC) has only his second fight in the UFC, but given the legacy of destruction that the Czech brings to his curriculum, the reason he is already top 5 in the organization and be doing a fight that possibly guarantees a belt dispute in case of victory. Prochazka was the only light heavyweight champion in the history of RIZIN FF, having defeated names known as Vadim Nemkov (current Bellator champion), Kazuyuki Fujita, Fábio Maldonado, King Mo and more recently CB Dollaway. “Denisa” was knocked out by King Mo in his first encounter in a very balanced fight, until Jiri went against a direct from the ex-Bellator challenger, who sent him straight to the country of dreams. It was the last defeat of the athlete's career.

In his UFC debut, Prochazka knocked out Volkan Oezdemir in a fight that raised more doubts about the Czech than confirmed his position as the division's new contender . The first round started very badly for Prochazka, who was hit hard in the first round, but did enough to tire the Swiss and eventually knock him out in the second round after using his powerful right hand. "Denisa" has a very peculiar style, at times seeming careless with his defense, but knowing how to use his 2.03m wingspan and a lot of foot movement to confuse his opponents.

In the case of two fighters with great wingspan, the combat has everything to unfold in the long distance. It has been proven that Reyes is excellent when his opponents try to keep the fight at a long distance, despite the American also having his defensive loopholes. Prochazka has always been hit hard in his career, as well as being vulnerable to low kicks , which can be very problematic against a powerful southpaw like Reyes. If the fight is extended, Jiri must take control of the actions, but there is no way to avoid a bet on those who have already shown consistency at the highest level of MMA. The bet is for Dominick Reyes via knockout in the first round .
