Charlo vs Montiel

WBC world champion Jermall Charlo will defend his middleweight championship belt this coming weekend in his home town of Houston (Texas, USA).  Against the Mexican Juan Macias Montiel, the 31-year-old Charlo is a huge favorite!

Boxing: Charlo vs Montiel

After Jermall Charlo (31-0-0, 22 Ko’s) had not yet hoped for "paydays" against Canelo Alvarez or Gennadiy Golovkin, the 31-year-old WBC champion first has to bake smaller rolls!  Most recently, half of the Charlo twins won against Sergiy Derevyanchenko unanimously on points (November 2020).

On Saturday night, the undefeated world middleweight champion will defend his title for the fourth time in Houston (Texas, USA) - in front of a home crowd.  However, this should only be a stopover, where a victory should almost be taken for granted.  Because for the next year Jermall Charlo wants to strive for at least one unification.

On the way there, the local hero has to prove himself against the Mexican Juan Macias Montiel (22-4-2, 22 Ko’s) at the weekend.  But that choice of opponent is sharply criticized by many experts!  The 27-year-old Montiell was able to achieve all of his victories early, but is not necessarily considered worthy of the World Cup.

Against the highly rated Jaime Munguia, Montiel suffered his (at least) only knockout defeat in 2017.  In his last competition, he again won prematurely against ex-Canelo opponent James Kirkland (November 2020).  In professional circles, Juan Montiel is still considered to have no chance.  The betting odds even see Jermall Charlo as a 40: 1 favorite!
