Virgil Ortiz Jr.  is back!  The top welterweight talent (17-0-0, 17 Ko) defends his WBO International belt on Saturday night against Egidijus Kavaliauskas (22-1-1, 18 Ko) in “The Ford Center at the  Star ”in Frisco, Texas (USA). The entire fight card will be broadcast live on DAZN on Sunday night from 2 a.m.

“Mean Machine”, the battle name of Kavaliauskas (33), is the strongest opponent in the vita of the young Ortiz jr.  (23) and as the final touchstone before an upcoming World Cup hit.  The Lithuanian, who like Oleksandr Usyk, Vasily Lomachenko or Sergey Kovalev, is also managed by Egis Klimas, took part in two Olympic Games for his country (2008, 2012) and fought for the WBO World Cup against superstar Terence in December 2019  Crawford.  In the said fight Kavaliauskas was defeated by Tko in round nine, but he was able to hit the reigning champion with his right flapping hand again and again at the beginning of the fight and even had Crawford briefly on the ground in round three.

Ortiz Jr.  celebrated his last triumph last March when he was able to turn off Maurice Hooker (27-2-3, 18 K.o.), ex-world champion in super light, in a convincing manner in round seven and thus continued his 100% knockout series.  Tomorrow evening, the 18th knockout in a row should succeed for the young Texan from Grand Prairie.

Ortiz Jr.  put exactly 66.678 kg on the scales at yesterday's “Weigh In” and was thus exactly within the limit for tomorrow's showdown.  Challenger Kavaliauskas was only slightly below with 66.497 kg.  Following the cradle ceremony, Ortiz Jr.  to the journalists present on the record: “I feel in excellent shape!  It's the second time in a row that I've been the main fighter in Texas.  Everyone wanted to see this fight and now the fans get their wish.  Our styles complement each other perfectly.  It's going to be a really good fight! ”Kavaliauska's last words before the match-up were:“ I love boxing!  It's going to be a great fight!  I'm not surprised Ortiz accepted this difficult fight against me.  He is a warrior like me, but I come to defeat him! "
