The United States withdraws as a member of the UNESCO international organization

The United States has warned that in the end they will withdraw from UNESCO by the end of next year, considering that there is a need for reform in this international organization and controversy over Israel.

The Secretary of State has informed UNESCO's Secretary of State Irina Bokov about the US decision to withdraw from this organization.

This decision has not been taken hastily and reflects US concerns about UNESCO's growing unresolved engagements and necessary reforms within that organization, as well as ongoing biases directed against Israel, "said Heder Nauert, spokeswoman for State Department.

The State Department statement states that "the United States will" continue to engage ... as a non-member state with observer status to contribute to US attitudes, perspectives and expertise. "
This decision is expected to come into effect on December 31, 2018.
