Messi broke Muller's record with 366 in the league

Lionel Messi has broken Gerd Muller's long record for the most goals scored for a club in the top five European leagues.

Barcelona's superstar scored his 366th goal in the Catalans' victory (4-2) against Real Sociedad.

The Argentine made a free-kick by crossing the German legend, who scored 365 goals with Bayern Munich.

The former German footballer had set his record while playing for the Bavarians in the period 1964-1979, while his goals scored in 427 La Liga matches.

Messi has been in great shape this season by scoring 16 goals and giving eight assists to the Spanish championship.

Barcelona's victory over Real Sociedad made the Blaugrana keep a nine-point distance from second-placed Atletico Madrid and 19 points away from Real Madrid.

The Argentine and his teammates have not missed this season, despite leaving the club Neymar.
