Health: This is the time when most acne appears

This is the time when most acne appears

Acne is caused by a combination of four factors: production of high levels of fat, bacteria, inflammation and blockage of impurities (dead cells).

Dr. Shainhouse says hormones (specifically testosterone and progesterone) can increase the level of fat and cause skin irritation. This is why you experience acne during the menstrual cycle, where the body produces these hormones in high amounts.

According to experts, hormones (specifically testosterone and progesterone) can increase fat production and inflammatory response. That's why acne is getting worse in the week when the time has come - because in this period the body can produce more progesterone and testosterone.

Hormones are unbalanced during adolescence and puberty, therefore adolescents have a lot of acne.
