More than 70,000 homeless people after the earthquake in Indonesia

More than 70,000 people have remained homeless as a result of the deadly earthquake that has hit Lombok Island in Indonesia, authorities announced on Wednesday, AFP reports.

Earthquake 6.9 has left 105 people dead and worried tourists Sunday, one week after another earthquake that has occurred in this country has killed 17 other people.

About 236 people have been seriously injured, thousands of homes have been damaged until authorities have called for medical help and supplies with necessary things.

"Efforts to evacuate people have accelerated, but there are still many problems in this area," said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman for the Disaster Agency.

"The number of victims continues to grow. More than 70,000 people have been evacuated and thousands of homes have been destroyed, "he said.

Local authorities, international aid groups and central leadership have started collecting relief, but damaged roads have slowed down the process of finding survivors in the north and east of Lombok Island, the parts most affected by the earthquake.

But the Indonesian army has announced that three planes filled with food, medical equipment, tents and water have now reached Lombok.
