Joshua vs Ruiz
Heavyweight World Champion Anthony Joshua (22-0-0, 21 Ko's) will be in the ring for the first time this coming weekend on his US debut. Against his challenger Andy Ruiz Jr. (32-1-0, 21 Ko's), the Briton will defend his world title on Sunday morning (German time) at the legendary New York Madison Square Garden.
Although Anthony Joshua will defend his championship titles (IBF, WBA, WBO, IBO) against a serious opponent at the weekend, the press seems to prefer to talk about the unification fight demanded by millions of boxing fans against WBC champion Deontay Wilder.
After Wilders impressive co-victory in the first round over Dominic Breazeale, the entire boxing world is hot on the duel of the two heavyweight champions. But first, 29-year-old Anthony Joshua, who will box for the first time in the US, will have to deliver a convincing performance against Andy Ruiz Jr. before they can seriously deal with the "wild problem".
After the originally planned as an opponent Jarrell Miller tested positive for three different doping substances, now the same age Ruiz Jr. is available. But does the US boy with the Mexican roots even have a real chance of victory? In any case, opinions differ widely.
The fact is: Andy Ruiz has lost only once. Against Joseph Parker he lost in the fight for the vacant WBO World Championship, in December 2016, only extremely tight and not uncontroversial on points. Most recently, he did not give the German-Ukrainian Alexander Dimitrenko the slightest chance and beat him prematurely. Although Andy Ruiz Jr. does not seem scary at first glance, Anthony Joshua should be well advised to take his opponent seriously!
