Saunders vs Isufi

Fighting: Boxing
Billy Joe Saunders - Shefat Isufi
Saturday (18 May) 18:30 (GMT 0)
Tonight evening Lamex Stadium in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England features 29-year-old local hero Billy Joe Saunders (27-0-0, 13 KO victories) and 29-year-old German with Albanian roots, Shefat Isufi (27-3 -2, 20 KO-victories), in the fight for the vacant WBO super middleweight title.

Saunders last official title fight took place in December 2017, when he showed a virtually flawless performance against David Lemieux. Then Saunders, in October of last year in Boston, Massachusetts, again denied a mandatory defense against Demetrius Andrade, but was tested shortly before that date positive for banned substance Oxilofrine, which then led to a refusal of a license by the State Boxing Commission of Massachusetts.

As a result of the positive doping control, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) then took him from his title world title in the middleweight division.
Meanwhile, the lock imposed by the WBO has expired and Saunders has risen a weight class up to super middleweight. As former long-time Mexican WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto Ramirez, also a top-notch, went up to light heavyweight and therefore returned his WBO title, the title in this weight class became vacant, to mark tomorrow's Saturday Saunders vs. Isufi will be fighting. A big advantage for Saunders is that he can get into the ring just minutes from his hometown Hatfield and sure 95% of the audience will stand behind him.
