Alcohol causes cancer by damaging DNA

Alcohol can cause cancer by permanently damaging certain DNA cells, has discovered a new study.

The links between drinking alcohol and cancer are well documented, however the science behind this link has not been well explained so far, reports Telegraph.

Researchers have found that alcohol damages some DNA cells in the blood and this leads to tumor formation.

When alcohol is digested in the body, it produces a toxic chemical known as acetaldehyde.

The authors of the study conducted their research on several mice, who had methanol and had continuously examined the effects that acetaldehyde had on their cellular structures.

By performing chromosome and DNA sequence analysis, they had been able to detect a level of genetic damage that is caused as a result of methanol.

The latest figures indicate that 21,000 UK cancer cases can be avoided if they do not drink alcohol!
