 Bellator London
Mousasi vs Lovato Jr
June 22, 2019 United Kingdom
After the great event last week, the Bellator 223 may even be a little off the radar of MMA fans, but the card that will be held this Saturday afternoon at the SSE Arena in London certainly deserves its attention mainly for be the only draw of this week - if we disregard the UFC. The main clash is valid for the belt of the category up to 84kg, taking place the second belt defense of Gegard Mousasi .
In his first fight in 2019, Dutchman Gegard Mousasi wants to follow up on his current undefeated streak since signing with Bellator . In three fights, he won all of them, and after the unnerving debut against Alexander Shlemenko  in controversial results, he ended up securing two irreproachable performances by running over the then defending champion Rafael Carvalho , and in his first title defense to completely dominate Rory MacDonald , who was up in the category in search of being champion of two divisions.
The challenger is the American Rafael Lovato Jr , who would have his chance to be the challenger in January, but after an injury the champion ended up running out of the fight. Close to turning 36, the world jiu-jitsu champion does not know what a defeat in his professional career is, winning all the ninth duels he made and only going once for the judges' decision. He earned the chance to play the belt after finishing the good John Salter , who came from seven victorious fights in sequence. It's undoubtedly the most important duel of Lovato's career, and it's also his first fight outside of the United States.
