Boxing: Kid Galahad vs Kiko Martinez

The featherweight world champion of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), the British Kid Galahad, will be making the first defense of his title, against former Spanish world champion, Kiko Martínez, this Saturday, at the Sheffield Arena, in Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK.

The fight, which is promoted by Matchroom Boxing, will be televised on DAZN.

This Friday, the official weigh-in of this billboard took place. Challenger Martinez had no trouble marking the weight, at 125.4 pounds, for this 12-round fight, agreed to at the 126-pound limit.

However, the problem was on the part of champion Galahad, who was forced to strip down to try and make weight, but gave up 126.1 pounds. For that reason, the local boxing authorities gave him 2 hours to lower that small difference and make the first defense of his world title.

Fortunately, for Galahad’s team, the fighter came back in moderate time and scored 126 pounds. And a win could provide an opportunity to unify the division with world featherweight champion Leigh Wood.

Galahad (28-1, 17 KOs) had an excellent performance when he stopped Jazza Dickens, in eleven rounds, to claim the vacant IBF crown, in Brentwood, Essex, last August to fulfill his dream of becoming a World Champion.

The 31-year-old is trained by Dominic Ingle and is aiming for supremacy at 126 pounds, and has already called for unification fights, with champions Gary Russell Jr. (WBC) and Emanuel Navarrete (WBO).

Kiko Martínez (42-10-2, 29 KOs) will have a chance to become world champion of two different weights, after suffering a controversial loss to Zelfa Barrett, at Wembley, earlier this year.
