EPL: Southampton vs Brighton

Southampton will host Brighton at St. Mary’s Stadium in the encounter in round 15 of the Premier League. Both are currently not in a really stable form and need a win to revive their spirits. In this situation, let’s wait and see if the home team will show its charm when encountering the “Seagull”, or the away team is the name that has the joy of leaving.

Twice ahead of the opponent thanks to goals from Jan Bednarek and Che Adams. However, in the end, Southampton still let Leicester hold a 2-2 draw at home. Thus, in the last 3 rounds, Southampton did not get a win (draw 1, lose 2). Before that, Southampton tasted bitter fruit before Liverpool and rookie Norwich. This is a season where Southampton have not been able to maintain the necessary stability. Accordingly, they only won 3, drew 6 and lost 5 through 14 rounds. With only 15 points, the home team of St. Mary’s Stadium is in 15th place on the table. They are 5 points away from the relegation group and are not really secure for the road ahead.

Southampton has a pretty good home record with 4 draws and 2 wins in the Premier League this season. In fact, they have only suffered 1 defeat at home this season, but drawing too much makes Southampton not in a good position. This season saw the Southampton attack play quite badly, when from the beginning of the season their strikers only shot 13 goals. Moreover, the Southampton defense received at least 2 goals in the last 3 rounds. In particular, Southampton cannot beat Brighton in the last 4 home matches. Southampton’s last home win over “Seagull” took place in the 2011 season in the Championship.

It seemed to have to taste bitter fruit when being a guest of West Ham in the previous round. However, the equalizer in the 89th minute of striker Neal Maupay helped Brighton hold the “sledgehammer” with the final score 1-1. Despite getting 1 point against the team that is in the top 4, it is undeniable that Brighton is going through a period of serious crisis. In the last 10 appearances in all competitions, Brighton did not win, but drew 8 and lost 2. In the Premier League alone, Brighton went through 9 rounds of only drawing and losing.

The last victory that this team had took place in mid-September against Leicester. Fortunately for Brighton, they played extremely impressively in the early part of the season. That helps Brighton still have a pretty good position on the current table. Accordingly, the away team won 4, drew 7 and lost 3 after 14 appearances. This result brings them 19 points and 7th place in the Premier League table. In the last meeting, Brighton won by 1 goal against Southampton, that is also the match that they have to be a guest at St.Mary. With a similar performance at the moment, the scenario of scoring points after the upcoming confrontation is very likely.
