FA: Swansea vs Southampton

Swansea have been out of action for nearly a month now and they will return with a home match against Southampton in the third round of the FA Cup. In the context of low performance and having to face an opponent from the Premier League, the “Black Swan” does not have many opportunities to go far in the FA Cup this season.

The last match Swansea participated in was in the match against Nottingham on December 11, at that time the “Black Swan” received a final defeat of 1-4 at home. It was also Swansea’s third consecutive loss in the Championship, marking a crisis period for coach Russell Martin’s teachers and students. Before that, they continuously tasted bitter fruit when facing Middlesbrough or Reading. Currently, Swansea are struggling in 17th place on the table, in which they bring back 27 points through 22 rounds.

With this result, the season is considered to end early for Swansea because they no longer have the opportunity to enter the race for promotion tickets. Swansea’s home form is really alarming with 2 consecutive defeats, calculated that this team has not won all 3 recent visits (draw 1, lose 2). The last time Swansea faced Southampton took place in the Premier League in 2018 and Southampton was happy with a 1-0 victory. In the last 7 confrontations, Swansea only won 2 and lost 7.

Like Swansea, this will be Southampton’s first match in 2022. The Saints’ last appearance was against Tottenham, where Southampton got a 1-1 draw at home. In the Premier League at the moment, Southampton is not in a really stable form. In the last 8 rounds, they only won 1, drew 4 and lost 3. In which, the 3-2 victory over West Ham was the biggest mark in the recent period of The Saints. At the away front, Southampton only won 1 and lost 3 in the last 5 trips away from home.

In the Premier League, coach Ralph Hasenhüttl’s teachers and students are currently ranked 14th in the rankings. They brought back 21 points through 19 rounds and 10 points more than the group holding the red light. Southampton have not kept a clean sheet in the last 5 matches and their defense is becoming a weakness that needs to be quickly overcome. Anyway, in the last 5 matches as a guest of Swansea, Southampton won 4 and lost only 1. With a higher rating, it is likely that Southampton will have a ticket to the round of 16 of the FA Cup.
