EPL: Tottenham vs Southampton

Nearly 10 months ago, the two teams just clashed in the Premier League in the 2020-21 season and at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium  that day, Tottenham was the absolute winner. In this meeting, Southampton was at an away disadvantage and not only could they not collect the debt, but it is likely that The Saints would have to receive another sad ending against Spurs.

After an unimpressive start under Antonio Conte, Tottenham are slowly getting back on track. The jubilant 3-1 victory over Brighton Hove Albion in the FA Cup is the third victory after the last 5 matches in the past 1 month for Spurs. It seems that the Italian strategist has found a winning formula for the team he is leading. And in front of a favorite opponent like Southampton, the stars of the home team like Son Heung Min, Harry Kane or Lucas Moura will have more opportunities to shine.

Remember, Tottenham’s head-to-head record against Southampton is quite impressive. In the last 6 encounters between the two sides, Spurs won 3 matches and only received 1 defeat. The 3 points obtained today may not have helped the London team improve their 7th position too much, but at least, it also helps them continue to follow the group to attend the European Cup.

What Southampton have shown so far is quite disappointing. The home team of St Mary’s Stadium has only 5 wins and 10 draws, while losing 7 after 22 rounds. 12th place on the chart right now is completely worthy of them. The result of a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes against Coventry City over the weekend in the FA Cup was the 3rd match in a row The Saints could not find a win (lost 1 and drew 2).

The away field is not only a fulcrum for teachers and coaches, coach Ralph Hasenhuttl, but also puts pressure on the Southampton players. That is evidenced by the fact that the home team at St Mary’s Stadium has only 1 win, while receiving 4 defeats in the last 7 away matches. The only victory was against West Ham United, the team was ranked 5th in the table.
