Boxing: Wood vs Conlan

The World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight world champion, Englishman Leigh Wood, will be defending his title, against the undefeated former interim WBA featherweight world champion, Irishman Michael Conlan, in the main event this Saturday, 12 March, at the “Motorpoint Arena”, in Nottingham, England.

The fight, which is promoted by Matchroom Boxing, will be televised on DAZN.

Both stellar fighters exceeded their commitment to the official Roman, registering Leigh Wood 125.5 pounds and Michael Conlan 125.4 pounds in Nottingham.

It will be the first World Cup defense for Leigh Wood (25-2, 15 KOs), 33 years old, since he captured the WBA title, defeating, by TKO in the twelfth round, the defending Chinese champion, Can Xu (18 -3, 3 KOs), last July, in Brentwood, England.

Michael Conlan (16-0, 8 KOs), 30, enters the world brawl after an impressive twelve-round unanimous decision win over countryman TJ Doheny last August at his own courtyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

In the fight with Doheny, Conlan won the interim WBA world championship, but later this title was extinguished by the WBA itself.
