Boxing: Mayer vs Han

The Super Featherweight World Champion of the Organization and the International Boxing Federation (WBO and IBF, respectively), the American Mikaela Mayer, will expose her crowns before her compatriot and former world champion Jennifer Han, in the main fight of a card that will take place this Saturday night at the Orange County Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, California

The fight is organized by Top Rank, and will be televised on ESPN.

The bout will mark Mayer’s third overall defense of his WBO strap title, along with his first fight in his childhood state, having been raised in Los Angeles.

Mayer (16-0, 5 KOs) weighed in at 129.8 pounds in fight form, while Han (18-4-1, 1 KO) weighed in at 128.8 pounds in her bid to become a two-division champion.

The fight comes five months after Mayer added the IBF belt to her collection following a ten-round victory over France’s Maiva Hamadouche in their hellish fight last November in Las Vegas. Mayer previously claimed the WBO belt in a ten-round shutout of previously undefeated champion Eva Brodnicka, in October 2020.

In the 10-round co-main event, welterweight contender Giovani Santillán (28-0, 15 KOs) will face Jeovanis Barraza (23-2, 15 KOs). The ESPN broadcast will open with former world champion Andrew Moloney (22-2, 14 KOs; 1NC) facing Gilberto Mendoza (19-11-3, 10 KOs) in an eight-round super flyweight fight.
