NL: Armenia vs Scotland

The loss to Ukraine a few days ago caused Armenia to be pushed to the bottom of the table and in great danger of being relegated. Therefore, welcoming a direct competitor like Scotland in the upcoming match is an opportunity for coach Joaquín Caparrós’ team to correct its mistakes.

Armenia entered this match after a 0-3 loss to Ukraine by coach Oleksandr Petrakov. Goals in the second half by Atalanta midfielder Malinovskyi, right-back Karavayev and Everton left-back Mykolenko made Armenia receive its heaviest defeat in the 2022 UEFA Nations League. Before that Armenia also lost to Scotland with a score of 0- 2. The common point of these two defeats is that Armenia has to play away from home.

In the opening match when welcoming Ireland at home, Armenia won 1-0. Armenia won the last 2/10 matches in all competitions and lost 8 of them. It is worth mentioning that both victories that Armenia have come from home. Further counting, Armenia only lost 2 of the last 10 home matches with 6 wins and 2 draws. The first leg match Armenia has to taste the bitter fruit and this is the time for them to reclaim the debt.

Scotland opened the UEFA Nations League 2022 campaign smoothly, defeating Armenia itself with a score of 2-0. However, that joy did not last long, because the last match Scotland lost 0-3 to Ireland when they had to be the guest of this opponent. Scotland won only the last 1/5 matches in all competitions. They are 3 points behind the top team Ukraine and will need a win to try to catch up with the leading group.

Scotland need to find their previous explosive form, a period when they won 6 consecutive matches in the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign. Scotland’s away form is quite good and they have only received 1 defeat in 5 Most recent match with 3 wins and 1 draw. Obviously, losing to Ukraine in the World Cup play-off semi-final had a great impact on the Scottish players’ morale. In this context, draw against Armenia was lucky for the away team.
