Both the Netherlands and Ecuador won the first leg of Group A – the 2022 World Cup final, and together lead the group. The Netherlands beat Senegal with a score of 2-0. Ecuador beat Qatar with the same score.
The orange whirlwind won 3 points ‘hard’ before the ‘uncomfortable’ of the defending African champion team. The Netherlands could only ‘solve’ Senegal at the end of the game, thanks to the ‘shining’ of Cody Gakpo (84′) and Davy Klaassen (90+8′).
Meanwhile, Ecuador defeated Qatar right from the first round. Both goals of the team representing South America even came after just over 30 minutes of rolling the ball. Both goals were scored by Enner Valencia (16′, 31′). If they make better use of the opportunities, Ecuador can beat Qatar by a larger margin.
The Netherlands and Ecuador in the past only competed against each other twice and those were all friendly matches. Result: The Netherlands are unbeaten (won 1, drawn 1). The victory of the Orange Cyclone against Ecuador took place in March 2006, with a score of 1-0. The last encounter saw the two teams draw 1-1, in June 2014.
